John 14.2-11 | What Is He Like? | BEAM & BYG | May 8, 2011

If someone asked you what God was like, what would you say? What could you
say? Many people know more about Derrick Rose, MC Fong, Pippa Middleton,
Illuminati, or even Osama bin Laden than God. Since God shows himself,
shouldn't we be able to answer the questions like "what is God like?"
Especially Christians, Do we know Christ better or Christianity better? Do
we know God better or godliness better? We're to show God to the world, but
how can we if we don't know him?

 Isaiah 43.1-13 | Belonging To God | BEAM and BYG | May 1, 2011 

The book of Isaiah was written at a time when the God’s people were frontin’ hard. They looked like they were godly, but they had in fact become corrupt. They were in a time where they were divided into two sides/nations: Israel and Judah and neither really obeyed God. God told them if they returned to him and their deal [covenant], they could stay in their land and things would be kosher. But they kept breaking their deal [covenant], and so their agreed upon discipline would be coming.

When people decide to go into hip-hop as an artist, they come up with a moniker (unless you’re Keith Murray). Of course, you’d want a name that represents your image or yourself or who you want to be. For example, you wouldn’t pick a name like MC Can’t Rap, B-Boy sux, the tag name WACK, or DJ And It Does Stop. You would pick a name in hopes of a good meaning or a good rep.

However, a nick name is something that other people give to you. Usually we get nicknames because of the reputation that you already have. If someone were to give you a name based on how much you benefitted others, what would your nickname be?

Scripture Acts 11:19-26 | Rep-Pew-Tation | BYG | April 3, 2011

The church in Antioch wasn’t a church plant. The main (only?) church of Jerusalem did not start it. It started on its own and their reputation got back to the church in Jerusalem. They sent Barnabas to check it out and he thought it was bomb. He got Saul (later to be known as Paul) and they helped it grow, both in quantity and quality.

Tell me, the crew that you roll with or the church that you’re a part of, what’s your rep? What should be your reputation? And this isn’t based on frontin’, but on reality. If people who knew you were to say something, what would they say?

Here’s another couple questions: how do we get a good reputation? Do we each have to work at it or just leave it up to God or the leaders of the church or crew?
